Selecting Your Camp
It is best to set your camp date and location before or immediately following tryouts. This will give families and team members time to plan their activities accordingly. With family vacations and many dancers participating in other activities, you may find it difficult to set a camp date that everyone can attend.
-
Contact your local UDA State Director in January to find out the dates and locations of the camps in your area.
-
Inform parents of the dates and give them a date to respond if there are any conflicts.
-
Once the choice is confirmed, call UDA to reserve your space. Notify your parents that a deposit will be required to hold the space. This is usually due two weeks after your initial reservation. Keep good records for each dancer and give receipts for the parent’s own records.
-
You will receive a return packet from UDA. Make sure to check all forms for accuracy and get the medical release forms to the parents for their signatures.
-
The remaining balance is usually due two weeks prior to the camp. Ask your parents to have their balance and all necessary forms in three weeks before the camp.
-
Make arrangements for camp travel. Check with your administration to make sure you are properly covered with school insurance policies. In most cases, certain procedures must be followed to have proper coverage!
Alternatives If dates and locations don’t work out, there is an option–the Private Camp. This program brings the instructional staff to your school. Please keep in mind that there are some things to consider.
-
First, you must provide an indoor facility. Check with your school to reserve the gym.
-
Let parents work out lunch arrangements (sack lunch, pot luck, pizza, etc.)
-
Call UDA to reserve the private camp dates. Be prepared to give three choices of dates to accommodate staff schedules.
-
Have local hotel information ready. UDA will pay for all of the staffs meals, travel and housing.
-
Prepare an emergency plan to deal with the possibility of an injury during the camp. UDA will help provide you with the paperwork when you register.
If you would like more than just your team at the local camp, contact area schools to arrange a Commuter Camp.
